CHILDREN’S COURSES

At the Alliance Française, children have the opportunity to speak and write French while having fun! We offer French as a first language-Français Langue Maternelle (FLAM) and French as a Foreign Language- Français Langue étrangère (FLE) courses for children aged 4 to 12. These classes open from six children and the maximum number of children per class is 12.

FRENCH AS A FIRST LANGUAGE COURSES

The 4-6 year-old course gives priority to oral skills, while introducing reading and spelling. Children learn to talk about their daily lives through playful activities (songs, children’s books or poetry, crafts, board games, etc.). The aim is to create an environment entirely devoted to French, in which children feel comfortable using this language.

The 7-9 years course focuses on reading and writing the French language. Children learn to spell common words correctly and the emphasis is placed on prosody and pronunciation. Poetry and French-language literature accompany this learning process. The activities are fun and interactive, so that children enjoy learning and using the language.

The course for 10-12 year-olds focuses on how the language works. Children improve their spelling and conjugation skills. At this age, the emphasis is on oral and written production. Children learn the rules through exercises and apply them immediately by completing projects (presentations, short films, stories, etc.). These projects give concrete form to concepts that remain abstract until they are used.

SCHEDULE

A child registering for the first time pays a registration fee of 10 euros.
Please indicate in “Comments” if you want to enroll your child for only one semester.

FRENCH AS A foreign language COURSES

The 4-6 year-olds course introduces children to the French language for the first time. Children will learn to introduce themselves, talk about their immediate environment (parents, colours, animals, toys, nature, etc.) and sing in French. The courses give priority to oral expression and the children will learn through fun and interactive activities.

The 7-9 years course introduces reading and writing French. The themes covered are broadened and notions of grammar are introduced. Children learn the basics of conjugation, spelling and pronunciation, again through playful activities. Children take home what they have learned in class to consolidate what they have mastered with their parents.

In the 10-12 years course, children will continue to learn grammar and spelling, but at a higher level. Children will learn to express themselves in the past and future tenses, to understand spoken French and, above all, to express themselves more confidently. The emphasis is on oral production and interaction.
