The Alliance
The Alliance Française is located in a beautiful town house in the centre of Rotterdam, on Westersingel 14, the city’s cultural axis and famous sculpture promenade, a 5-minute walk from the central station. In our building, we welcome you on four floors in rooms equipped for cultural and linguistic activities: enjoy our café and our library.
The building was renovated in 1996 by Rem Koolhaas’ architectural firm, OMA Rotterdam (Office for Metrpolitan Architecture), and the Rotterdam artist Joep van Lieshout, thanks to support from the City of Rotterdam and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Works of art are integrated into the architecture of the building and the French artist Daniel Buren was commissioned and realised in 2000 in the form of an installation on the façade of the building.
Our French courses, taught by qualified French-speaking teachers, are tailored to an international audience or to your specific needs. We offer all kinds of cultural activities such as conferences, literary events, exhibitions, tastings of French products, concerts and other themed evenings.
The Alliance Française network is managed by the Fondation Alliances Françaises in 132 countries. The Alliance Française network in the Netherlands is one of the most active with 34 branches. We share the same mission: to promote the learning of the French language and the knowledge and appreciation of the French and Francophone culture.
