De Fransen die de Hollandse provincies bezochten en daar verslag van deden, beschrijven Holland als een Chinees paradijs. De steden; de architectuur; de interieurs; de landschappen;\u00a0de gewoonten en gebruiken: alles ademt China voor Franse schrijvers als Victor Hugo, Louise Colet en Th\u00e9ophile Gautier. Zelf naar China gaan, dat was de moeite niet: Holland was meer Chinees. Nieuwsgierig geworden? Dans leurs r\u00e9cits, les Fran\u00e7ais d\u00e9couvrant les provinces hollandaises d\u00e9crivent la Hollande comme un paradis chinois. Les villes, l&#8217;architecture, les int\u00e9rieurs, les paysages, les coutumes et les pratiques : tout respirait la Chine pour des \u00e9crivains fran\u00e7ais comme Victor Hugo, Louise Colet et Th\u00e9ophile Gautier. Aller en Chine n&#8217;en valait pas la peine : la Hollande \u00e9tait plus chinoise que la Chine ! Vous \u00eates curieux ?
